How does it Feel?
Two questions I am frequently asked are “What’s it like seeing your designs on a T-shirt?” or “How does it feel to see people wearing your designs?” So I thought I’d finally answer them properly on here.
Honestly, it’s surreal. It never really feels “normal” to me. Most of the time, I’m coming up with these ideas in my bedroom, so to see them out in the world is just crazy. I usually spend weeks looking at a design on my screen before it ever sees the light of day, so in my head, it still just lives on the iPad at my desk.
At that stage, it’s just a digital drawing. It’s not physical. That’s why one of my favourite moments is getting to hold the final product for the first time, feeling the print, seeing it come to life.
As for the second question, seeing people wear the tees gives me a massive sense of accomplishment and reassurance. It’s one thing for a band to like the artwork, but when fans connect with it enough to spend their money on something I’ve made, that just elevates it. That’s when it usually sinks in that I actually get to do this as my job, and I can’t ever take that for granted.
The thought that my work is now out there, probably all over the world, in places I’ve never been, with people I’ve never met, is honestly humbling. Some of them won’t know who I am, and that’s the magic of it. Somewhere my work is just quietly part of someone else’s world.
So, how does it make me feel?
Proud. Motivated. Thankful.
But mostly, just glad that my art is making people happy.
It’s the part that always reminds me why I love what I do.
